    Mark Richardson is presently serving in his second term as Cole County Prosecuting Attorney, having first been elected in 2006.  He previously served six years as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the same office from 1985 to 1992.  He served four two-year terms as the elected Jefferson City Municipal Judge, beginning in 1999.

    After graduating from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1984, Richardson began his legal career as a Missouri Assistant Attorney General under then-Missouri Attorney General John Ashcroft, serving from 1984 to 1985.  In 1992, he entered private practice as an attorney in Jefferson City.

    Richardson has lectured on Fourth Amendment search and seizure law, police civil liability, testimony in court/expungement for the Missouri Police Chiefs Association, and he served as editor of "Case Law Update" for the Missouri Office of Prosecution Services, 1986-1987.  He has completed the following courses through the National College of District Attorneys:  Trial Advocacy (1986), Prosecution of Violent Crime (1988), Prosecuting Drug Cases (1990), and Prosecuting Homicide Cases (2007).  He served as a trial attorney for the Cole County Juvenile Office from 1992-1994.  Richardson completed the course of Sentencing Motor Vehicle Law Offenders through the National Judicial College in 2004. He has appeared as a guest speaker for various organizations to educate citizens on the subject of the law and the court.  He has personally tried over seventy-five jury trials, over sixty-five as a prosecutor.  He has handled more than fifty cases in our Missouri Appellate Courts, including several before the Missouri Supreme Court.     

    Richardson is a member of the National District Attorneys Association, the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, the American Bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, and the Cole County Bar Association.
